This is a book that my grand-daughters enjoyed having me read to them. It could be used as an introduction to some of the great artists of the 20th century for older readers.more However, in the hands of the right teacher/adult, this title has lots of potential for all grade levels. As an art book, the intended audience will be unfamiliar with the imitation artworks and most of the original artists even the afterword’s thumbnail sketches of the artists do not show the original artworks that were the inspiration for the copies. As a picture book, the storyline and pictures do not mesh and are weak. It fails as a picture book and as an art book. I enjoyed this title, but I am familiar with the art being parodied. Ultimately, she finds her muse and her original mousterpiece is featured on the last page. Of course, the director notices her work and gives her her own exhibition, at which she gets mixed reviews. ![]() ![]() (Warhol, Munch, Picasso and Matisse are but a few of the artists whose works she copies.) When a section of the museum is closed for renovation, she fills the rooms with her paintings. She starts copying them in her own style, and each reproduction has a mouse-y twist. It could also show the beauty of finding your own voice, being different or completing your own work. Each day of art class could be over a different technique. The kids could learn the different techniques and practice them each day. This book would be good to read to kids before going to art class or while they are in art class. After using other people technique's, she invented her own technique. I also loved that at the very end of the story, Jansen completed an original piece of art. I loved that at the very end of the book it went through every picture the Jansen drew, told the technique and the history of it. Each piece of art that Jansen completed used an actual art technique.
